Termites are never welcome in our homes.
They are important insects for the ecosystem as natural decomposers whose absence could cause ecological imbalance. But they can cause problems in residential areas as they can damage our homes. We tend to use chemicals to get rid of them, which can definitely kill termites but can also harm people in the long term.
So if we don’t want to use chemicals, how can we protect our homes without damaging the ecosystem?
There are now many physical termite barriers such as high-quality stainless steel of ultramarine grade. Stainless steel grilles are highly resistant to gnawing and chemicals from termites. Foundations of basaltic rock can also prevent termites from burrowing in. Termite food sources such as tree stumps, wood chips, and cement bags should also be removed from under, around, and inside buildings. Wood substitute materials can resist termites. Regular inspections every 6 months can detect problems early.
Houses in the design process can level up floors to reduce moisture under the building and reveal termite paths.
