RISC is proud to be boosting health and well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Negative Pressure ER 100% Fresh Air” developed by RISC and EEC has been installed in Bangkok to help patients in the outbreak.

The ER room safeguards health and well-being with airflow to keep out microbes and is energy-saving, flexible, easy to move, and good for mental health.

- The room is 2.5 meters wide, 6 meters long, and 2.75 meters high, or 15 square meters. It can contain 1 patient bed and support emergency procedures requiring a respirator (red patients).
- 12 Pa negative pressure exceeds the safe minimum of 7.5 Pa. The entrance has 5 Pa negative pressure to prevent air leaving the patient’s room. The 2 entrances have a one-way route to reduce infection risks.
- Air goes through a HEPA filter before being released safely outside. Fresh air is added regularly with an air conditioning system that controls airflow. The staff entrance (anteroom) has 10 air changes/hour. The operating area has 13 cycles/hour, beyond the medical standard for an ER room of 12 cycles/hour.
- ISO wall panels resist mold and are easy to clean. Rubber tiles meet cleanroom standards.
- Sealed doors prevent air leakage to protect surrounding areas. The main door can fit wheelchairs and equipment.
- Lighting has a color temperature of 4000K. White surfaces increase brightness and facilitate operations while giving a clean appearance and making dirt easy to spot.
- ISO walls with 2-inch thick flame-retardant polyurethane insulation keep out heat, reduce power use, and prevent air leakage.
- The exterior walls boost mental health with color-changing lights. At night, the lights turn on warm white lights. During the day, blue lights shine at 470-480 nm. Many studies show that this wavelength reduces stress faster than white light by stimulating the prefrontal cortex (PFC) that controls thoughts, emotions, and relaxation.

“Negative Pressure ER 100% Fresh Air” is one of RISC's innovations under its strategy of “For All Well-Being”. This is an important step for RISC researchers to continue developing innovations and research for good living.
