You can help tackle the global waste crisis!

RISC has collaborated to find ways to upcycle waste in building materials and reduce waste from construction. Material manufacturers are now looking to create new value through recycling and upcycling.

Plastic bottles can be turned to fibers in AVA (Anti-Viral Allergy Free) carpets, pillowcases, sofa covers, towels, cloth bags, or masks. These products slow the spread of RNA viruses, including MERS and SARS, in yet another innovation for the epidemic era.

Agriculture waste, such as rice husks, can add value as wall decorations. These bio-composite materials are ecofriendly and generate income for communities because rice husks are collected from local farmers.

For food waste, RISC collaborated with Sonite Surface Innovation to develop materials containing 30% eggshells. The result is uniquely patterned artificial stone. It’s as durable as regular artificial stone and can be used in countertops and furniture.

Material from UHT boxes can be recycled into roofing sheets. These are 50% lighter than traditional double corrugated roof tiles but also extremely strong, durable, rainproof, heat resistant, and capable of reflecting UV rays, significantly lowering the cost of insulation.

If we pay attention to waste, recycle and upcycle, and implement knowledge and innovation, we can develop new materials with lots of advantages while reducing waste’s devastating impacts on the environment.
