Happiness is a positive state that we all seek. But excessive emotion can become “mania”. Mania blocks our negative emotions, bringing disadvantages and even danger. It leads to risky behaviors, drinking too much alcohol, spending too much money, and even taking drugs.

Excessive positive emotion can have negative outcomes for our life, our personality, and our community:

- When we’re happy we ignore dangers that we notice when we feel fear. In the COVID-19 outbreak, many of us might stay optimistic and keep living normally until it’s too late.
- Pride can be positive but it can also damage our well-being and social relations. Being too proud can cause aggression and antisocial behavior.
- We may neglect to get medical support, aggravating health conditions and troubling others.
- We are less creative and considerate than people who are moderately happy.

Too much and too little happiness are each bad for us. We all need to be conscious and balance our emotions. Moderation is best.
